Your Initial Consultation

What to expect when visiting an Osteopath for the first time

Your Initial Consultation session is usually longer than our normal treatment sessions, this allows us to spend some time discussing your problem, your general health, other medical care and your medical history. This is so that we can make sure that we are providing the best treatment for you. Any information that you give us is completely confidential.

We will then go through any postural or bio-mechanical assessments that may be necessary, you may be asked to dress down for these. If you are uncomfortable dressing down, please do let us know – you can always bring a pair of shorts and a loose-fitting vest to get changed into.

We may ask you to make some simple movements so that we can observe your posture and mobility. We may also use our hands to help us examine the health of your joints, tissues and ligaments.

Osteopathic treatment is hands-on and may include soft and deep tissue massage as well as spinal manipulations. You can find out more about your treatment here.

Treatment After-Care

You may feel a little sore or achy for 24-48 hours after treatment, this is just because of the physical nature of the treatment. If you do have any concerns we will always be happy to talk them through with you.
