A swinging success
As an Osteopathic and Sport Injuries Clinic, The Osteopathic Consultancy has helped many people to enhance their enjoyment of sports. One example is Matt, a keen golfer, who wanted to increase the power of his golf swing by improving his range of movement.

An examination of his lower back identified that his core muscle groups were not strong enough. In addition, Matt's mid back (thoracic spine) was not moving into the right rotation which is fundamental for the perfect golf swing.
Matt's treatment plan included spinal manipulation and deep trigger point therapy into the muscles to improve his stability and mobility. Rib articulations and a release technique were used to ease his diaghram compression - caused by hunching whilst driving. Matt was also advised to carry out some abdominal and rotation exercises every day, to strengthen his core muscles.
The results were almost immediate. Because Matt now has greater mobility, his golf swing has improved, he is hitting longer and applying better timing as he hits the ball. In addition, his strengthened core muscles mean that his lumbar spine discs are now protected during his game - reducing the likelihood of future back injuries.
Matt is impressed with the difference it's made, adding:
"I definitely feel my game has improved with length and direction. I still use the exercises 6 months on and I think The Osteopathic Consultancy has given me more awareness of how my body is working on the course as well in everyday life."

After a full consultation to rule out any underlying medical conditions, The Osteopathic Consultancy identified that her working environment was the root cause of her problem as it was putting unnecessary pressure on her spine.
Osteopathy's approach is to remove obstacles for the body to heal itself which included using manipulation and soft tissue techniques to work with the muscles and ligaments. Acupuncture and electrotherapy were also used for the nervous system.
Joy was advised to set up her workstation correctly which included adjusting the height of her computer screen and she was given some exercises to strengthen her muscles and keep her body active.
Joy adds:
"I have no pain or stiffness in my back any more - thanks to the osteopathy treatments and adjusting my daily routine. I'm now much more conscious about my posture and continue to look after my back with stretching exercises."
